Regional Resiliency Roundtable: Designing for The Future of Our Communities
March 6 @ 5:00 pm – 8:00 pm
In this roundtable discussion, we will review historical and projected climate trends that will impact development in our area and explore how possible changes to building codes, zoning ordinances, mitigation planning, and mitigation assistance could be used to help meet resilient design and housing goals for Johnson City and our region. Dr. Andrew Joyner, the TN State Climatologist and Associate Professor at ETSU will open the discussion with a presentation on the recently updated TN State Hazard Mitigation Plan.
We will also explore the Horizon 2045 Johnson City Growth Management Plan as an opportunity to lay an equitable and sustainable foundation for the future of our city. We will explore how local architects, builders, and developers impact our regional communities and environment. We will examine how these groups and others influence the future land use strategies and policy framework of the Horizon 2045 Plan, and explore recommendations from local scientists and professionals. This roundtable discussion is brought to you by The American Institute of Architects- East Tennessee Chapter Committee on the Environment.
