The AIA is the voice of the architecture profession. We’re more than 94,000 members strong.
Based in Washington, D.C., the American Institute of Architects (AIA) has been the leading professional membership association for licensed architects, emerging professionals, and allied partners since 1857. Through education, legislative and regulatory development, professional education, and research, the AIA and its more than 94,000 members express their commitment to excellence in design and livability in our nation’s buildings and communities.

Each year the AIA
- Sponsors hundreds of continuing education experiences to help architects maintain their licensure
- Offers more than 100 forms and contracts that define relationships and terms involved in the design and construction industry
- Publishes more than 20 online publications
- Provides countless Web-based resources for emerging architecture professionals
- Helps members connect with each other in more than 20 knowledge communities, 300 some local and state components, and several blogs
- Conducts market research and provides analysis of the economic factors that affect the business of architecture
- Hosts the annual AIA National Convention and Design Exposition
- Serves as an advocate of the architecture profession
- Champions architects’ future through an annual ad campaign
